I loved Alex’s outfit, it had all the right elements–edge, balance, and coordination. His choice of accessories, denim, and boots, helped result in a very successful look. I loved that he gave his boots the job of adding a splash of color, it complimented his outfit.

Not the Usual
I decided to add different types of print to my wardrobe because I felt that my clothes are starting to seem a little bit “regular.” And regular is not a look I go for. So, when I saw this blazer at Joe Fresh, I knew that it had to be mine. It reminded me of blazers from the Fall/Winter ’12 Versace men’s collection, in terms of the flower print and cut. Though Versace would have most likely made the flowers larger and brighter.
While print blazers can add pizzaz to an outfit, they are very tricky—it is either a hit or miss depending on how you style it. However, that should not be a reason to avoid print blazers. Instead, work with it. Pay attention to the pattern and pair it with items that compliment it. Print blazers are already extravagant, so do not overdo it, but you can definitely add another print, just make sure that it is lighter than the blazer.

Store Spotlight: Proof Wood Eyewear
Ahh! I love wooden sunglasses! Okay, wait. Maybe I should start from the top before you begin to think I have gone crazy.
Proof is another favorite brand of mine. I became aware of the it after I saw a picture rapper, Snoop Dogg, wearing the brand’s signature sunglasses. And as the saying goes, “the rest was history.”
Proof was founded in January 2011 by Brooks, Taylor, and Todd Dame; three brothers who not only wanted to present the world with a different kind of eyewear, but help give sight to those who cannot see—a large portion of Proofs profits go to eye-surgeries in India. Inspired by their grandfather, an entrepreneur who started a small sawmill that evolved into a successful family business, the Dame brothers used the knowledge they gained in the wood industry to add a wooden twist to traditional eyewear.
From the moment I saw their collection of wooden sunglasses, I was very impressed, so impressed that I bought four pairs within 10 minutes—do not judge me. I love the cut and design of the frames, they are well made and the detail is superb—the result of having every pair hand crafted. In addition, the sunglasses are lightweight, which is something I did not expect when thinking about eyewear made of wood. What I like the most about their sunglasses is the durability, these are not flimsy accessories that will fall apart after a few wears, they are built to last a long time.
Proof prides itself on making eyewear that “offers a look and feel that can’t be replicated.” And from what I have experienced, it is definitely something that I can confirm. In short, Proof is a wonderful brand and I recommend it to everyone. And for those who are concerned about the cutting down of trees, Proof has you in mind. All of the wood that is not used in their sunglasses is replanted.

Store Spotlight: Dissizit!
My little brother introduced me to the brand a few months ago and I have been following it since. Dissizit has been on the scene for over 20 years, drawing inspiration from street culture—graffiti, individuality, and hip hop—to make clothing that continues to mesmerize fans across the country.
What separates Dissizit from other brands is that it successfully blends its inspiration into the clothing, from their artistic graphic t-shirts to their inventive line of jackets, even their website exudes their inspiration. I like the brand because it does not follow trends; instead, it establishes individuality and inspires its fans to express themselves.
Dissizit took me out of my element and pushed me to explore different forms of ‘dress.’ I am happy that I was introduced to it because I probably would have never come across the brand—I would have still been in my safety element. And as a result I would have missed out on the creativity, uniqueness, and style that makes Dissizit admirable. However, that did not happen. And it is my pleasure to say that the brand has a new fan—me
To the Tee.
A Graphic Look
Ahh! Button-Downs
I love button-downs; they are my signature-clothing item for almost every outfit I wear. Why? I have no idea, but I think it has to do with the look that button-down shirts possess, you know, that look of sophistication and maturity.
Recently, I came across button-down shirts from the brand Dissizit and I was really impressed. Not only are the shirts durable, but they are very well made; from the stitching to the craft, this tells me that a lot of time is spent on ensuring that the shirts are up to par. However, I recommend sizing down because the shirts are classic cut, so it would fit a little bigger.

Beach season is upon us and what better time to relax with friends and indulge in a delicious drink. No matter your location – be it city, country or beach – or attire –be it business, casual, or board shorts and a tee – there are many drinks from across the world that have become popular for dinner parties, after-work cocktails, or relaxing on the beach. Below, i’ve put together our favorite summertime drinks that will leave you feeling refreshed – all while impressing your guests. Let’s dive right in:
#1: Daiquiri – This popular drink originated in Cuba and is a staple at any beachside bar. The story goes that the drink was invented by Americans, working in Cuba because they had an ample supply of rum, lime, and sugar. Today, it’s most popular in frozen form and, can be found in nearly any tropical fruit flavor. Here’s how to make it:
- 3 oz. light rum
- 1 ½ T. lime juice
- 2 T. white sugar
- 2 cups of crushed ice
Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend together until smooth.
#2: Mai Tai – This Polynesian drink caught on after being featured in Elvis’s hit movie, “Blue Hawaii” and is found in tropical destinations around the world. Here’s how to create a passion fruit version of the drink:
- 4 oz. light rum
- 2 oz. dark rum
- 2 oz. of Triple Sec
- 8 oz. of passion fruit juice
- Lime wedge
Mix the light rum, Triple Sec, and passion fruit in a shaker and pour into glasses. Pour 1 tablespoon of dark rum over each glass and finish it off with a lime wedge.
#3: Piña Colada – This refreshing drink has been around for more than 100 years, but was made popular in the 50s when a bartender added cream of coconut to it. Here’s how to make it for your guests:
- ½ cup rum
- ½ cup coconut cream
- ¼ coconut milk
- ¼ cup pineapple chunks
Fill your blender half full with ice cubes, then pour in the above four ingredients. Puree and pour into glasses. For added flair, you can garnish it with a pineapple ring or cherry.
#4: Sex on the Beach – If you have ladies craving a fruity beach cocktail, look no further than a Sex on the Beach. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 ½ oz. vodka
- 2 oz. orange juice
- 2 oz. cranberry juice
- ½ oz. peach schnapps
Pour all four ingredients into a shaker and blend well. Pour into a highball glass and garnish with a cherry.
#5: Mojito – Everyone knows you can’t have a proper summertime party without a mojito. Here’s how to give your guests what they want:
- 1 ½ oz. rum
- 1 T. mint leaves
- 1 T. sugar
- ½ oz. lime juice
- 2-4 lime wedges
- Soda, to taste
Before mixing this drink, grab a few tall glasses and cover the bottom of the glass with mint leaves. Then, add sugar, rum, lime juice and crushed ice. Muddle together. Finally, top it off with soda water and mint leaves.
#6: Cape Codder – As its name implies, the Cape Codder was created in Massachusetts and is an easy mix of spirits and fruit juice. If you’re looking for a quick and easy cocktail for your dinner party, this is definitely it:
- 3 oz. cranberry juice
- 2 oz. vodka
- Lime wedge
Pour the cranberry juice and vodka into a highball glass filled with ice. Stir it well, then squeeze lime juice over the top.
#7: Bahama Mama – Our final refreshing drink for your guests is a Bahama Mama, usually served in a highball glass with a garnish of pineapple on the side.
- 1 oz. coconut rum
- 1 oz. rum
- 1 oz. grenadine
- 2 oz. orange juice
- 2 oz. pineapple juice
Combine all liquids with ice and puree in a blender until the contents are slushy. Pour into a glass and garnish with fruit as desired.
Next time you’re planning a cocktail party, look no further than the tasty treats on this list. They’ll have your guests raving for weeks!

Store Spotlight: MOSCOT
MOSCOT was founded by Hyman Moscot, an Eastern European immigrant, who found his niche for eyewear while selling eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 1899—which is symbolized in the brand’s logo. And over 100 years later, MOSCOT has become the “poster-eye” for eyewear, inspiring other brands across the world and becoming the go to brand for celebrities such as Johnny Depp and Justin Theroux.
I was introduced to the brand a few months ago and since then, their eyewear have become must-have accessories for all of my outfits—obsessive, yeah, maybe just a little. But who could blame me; MOSCOT has the appeal and versatility that I love. So, when I was given the opportunity to interview Wendy Simmons, Co-President of MOSCOT for about 8 years, I was all over it.
Wendy described MOSCOT as brand based on 3 pillars, history, fashion, and humor, all which have equal measure. In other words, MOSCOT is not a brand that takes itself too seriously. Although their frames are designed to be fashionable and fashion forward, they are not in a cookie cutter format. Instead, the brand gives personality to their eyewear; every frame has a humorous element to it, every frame is unique, and every frame tells a story. It is no surprise that the brand’s fan base is constantly growing.
What I love most about the brand is that it has managed to maintain its traditional roots—the vision that Hyman Moscot had in mind—creating frames reminiscent of MOSCOT styles from decades ago. And knowing that the brand hand quality controls every single frame, tells me that providing the best optical experience for fans is a number one priority, which I find admirable.
I asked Wendy to describe MOSCOT in three words and she said, “authentic, bold, and fun.” And I agree. MOSCOT is more than a brand and more than eyewear—it is iconic.

Store Spotlight: Jedidiah
I came across Jedidiah while browsing for information about organizations involved in humanitarian aid. I noticed that a lot of organizations were selling t-shirts to help raise money, so I Googled ‘humanitarian clothing’ and Jedidiah was the first search result.
Founded on the principle of “cultivating change, one garment at a time,” the brand successfully uses fashion and style to assist humanitarian organizations. Using an array of earth tone colors in the brand’s collection of apparel, from artistic graphic t-shirts to a variety of well-crafted short pants, Jedidiah’s mission shines through. And if the craftiness of the clothes was not reason enough to admire the brand, knowing that with each item sold, a portion of the money goes to a non-profit organization to raise money and awareness for those in need, is.
With its stylistic streetwear and creative appeal, Jedidiah has quickly become one of my favorite brands.

The Boardshort
Okay, so I tried surfing a few days ago and let’s just say that I did not “catch wave.” Instead, it caught me. But it is not my fault, we do not surf in New York City, well there is train surfing, but that is a totally different topic. Anyhow, this post is not about my failed attempt at surfing; instead, it is a review of the Jedidiah boardshort.
The boardshort was really comfortable, it was fitted enough that it stayed on my waist as I dropped, fell, and dog paddled, but still had enough space that I was able breath. In addition, the short is very lightweight and super soft. What I like the most about this boardshort is its durability and fast drying material. And unlike other boardshorts, there is a sort of a safety fabric at the crotch of the short, which protects the front area from being snagged on the Velcro—a very important feature based on the stories I have heard from surfers.
Whether you are a surfer or plan on surfing, what are you waiting for? Try the Jedidiah boardshort you will not regret it.

Store Spotlight: SOGO (Sun’s Out Guns Out)
Founded during the summer of 2011 in San Francisco, California, by Raphael Durand, Eric Morgon, Manuel Garcia, and Kyle Promes, Sun’s Out Guns Out (SOGO) has captured the attention of fans—myself included—across the country. Tank tops, the brand’s signature apparel is far from dull, with bubble letters reminiscent of street art from the San Francisco Bay Area, and an image of a mellow sun on every tank, SOGO is definitely about chilling out and having fun.
At first, I was never really a fan of tanks because I felt that you had to be built like Arnold Schwarzenegger to pull it off—okay, well maybe not that build, but you get the point. However, with SOGO tanks I do not feel that way, maybe it is the fun colors or design, I cannot really put my finger on it. Either way SOGO is a brand that I recommend, so what are you waiting for? The sun is out, time to get your guns—of any size—out.
Warm Weather Layers
Who says that you cannot layer up when it is warm out side? I do it all the time, it is all about how you layer. For example, do not wear a merino wool sweater with a button-down shirt when it is 75 degrees outside, instead, go light. Pair a tank top with a button-down or flannel shirt–with the sleeves rolled up–think of it as a t-shirt that is cut open. And finish with your favorite jean and sneakers. Although it is fun to show some skin, it also cool to layer up.

Store Spotlight: Bensimon
A few months ago my close friend introduced me to Bensimon and since then I have become a fan. For over 25 years the French brand has maintained the vision of Serge and Yves Bensimon, presenting the world with a unique collection of shoes, bags, and other clothing items.
Using high quality, natural fabrics in every collection, Bensimon has made a name for itself in the fashion realm. What I find most interesting about the brand is that the collections are sewed with transparent thread—a Bensimon signature. And while I love the Bensimon collections, it is the brand’s shoes that appealed to me. As a man who is always on the lookout for unique, creative, and well-crafted footwear, Bensimon has drawn me in. Although the shoes are simple, the design and craftsmanship of every pair adds a unique outlook to it. In short, I admire Bensimon and highly recommend the brand to everyone.
Shoes Make The Man

I guess you could say that I am a little obsessed with Bensimon shoes—okay, maybe ‘little’ is a bit of an understatement—but who could blame me. I love the uniqueness of the shoes, from its design to the material that it is made of; they are not your typical tennis shoes. Not to mention they are versatile, a feature I always look for when buying shoes. We can all agree that shoes make the man. And Bensimon has been on top of that ideology since the end of World War II.Canvas Sneakers | Bensimon

Store Spotlight: Carhartt
With over 120 years under its belt, Carhartt has retained a strong presence in the workwear industry. I have been a fan of the brand since my mom bought my first “duck jacket” when I was 15. What I admire most about Carhartt is the quality and durability of the clothing. The brand definitely stays true to its key values of “durability, comfort, fit, function and style.” Simply put, you do not have to worry about their clothes falling apart after a few wears or washes. Not to mention, the clothes are affordable.
Carhartt is a brand dedicated to providing high quality clothing at reasonable prices and while its foundation lies in workwear, Carhartt clothing can be worn for any casual occasion, and is one of my favorite brands.
Dashing In Denim
The Carhartt denim jacket is one of my favorite pieces; its edgy look differentiates it from other denim jackets and can add pizzazz to almost any outfit. In addition to its versatility, the bold yellow stitching and tight finish adds to its overall appeal, making the jacket standout even more. Carhartt has managed to incorporate the durability and tough look of the brand’s other jackets into a piece that is not only stylish, but comfortable. Pair it with a light denim jean and a graphic t-shirt for a total edgy look or with a colored pant and plaid button-down for softer edgy look, either way the Carhartt denim jacket is a must-have item.

Love for the Duck
Carhartt has always been known for its work wear, especially the infamous “duck jacket,” which has inspired many brands across the world to make their own version of this classic piece.
I love the durability of this jacket; it is heavy-duty so it will definitely last a long time and looks even better as it ages. As for the craft of the jacket, it is pretty good, there are hardly any pull-threads and the stitching is noteworthy. Not to mention its mocha color allows for versatility. And for a heavy-duty jacket, it is lightweight, which adds even more to its appeal. In short, the duck jacket embodies the ideal outerwear: it looks good; it is long-lasting, versatile, and, most importantly well made.

Chic of a Gentleman
So, I surprisingly but pleasantly ran into one of the models that I used when I first kicked of my blog. Despite not seeing each other since, I was not surprised to see how stylish he still is. For this reason, I felt compelled to take his picture…for old times sake. I loved that he used a suit jacket instead of blazer because it gave his outfit a different look. I also loved his mixture of neutral colors. Although they were simple, the colors worked well with each other.
A Feminine Twist To A Man’s Style
Although these shoes are for women, when I first saw them I knew they were something I had to write about. Bed | Stü was able to take this masculine style— a chukka boot, boat shoe hybrid, a style commonly seen with men’s shoes—and give it a touch of femininity, with the sleeker body. The stitching on this shoe is very detailed and precise, as if it were made under a microscope. This not only shows that a great deal of effort went into making them, but that they will last a long time. What I like the most about the shoe is that it kept its signature rugged look—the defining feature of Bed | Stü. As a man of style I can appreciate good-looking shoes even though I cannot wear them. And I would so buy the men’s version. Actually… I might do that now.

Store Spotlight: Bed | Stü
Bed | Stü has been a brand that I have admired for years. Inspired by the lifestyle, people, and culture found in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, Bed | Stü has quickly become a pioneer for men and women’s shoes. Since 1995, the brand has been dedicated to creating well-crafted and unique footwear.
Bed | Stü never fails to impresses me because their footwear is never over the top. Instead, they are simple, comfortable, stylish, and versatile—four characteristics I always look for when buying shoes. In addition to their vintage look, the craftsmanship of their shoes is what appeals to me the most.
The stitching on every shoe is very detailed and precise—as if each shoe was made under a microscope. This not only shows that a great deal of effort went into making them, but their shoes are durable. I guess you can say being handcrafted using the finest natural materials available makes their shoes worth it.
Bed | Stü is an amazing brand offering classic styles with attitude–no wonder the brand boasts a cult following with its fans–and is definitely a place for men of style.

Store Spotlight: Lacoste
Lacoste has been a part of my life since the age of 13–I remember having their signature polo shirts in almost every color. Founded in 1933 by René Lacoste, who revolutionized men’s fashion by remodeling the classic attire for tennis and golf, shortening the sleeves, slimming the cut, and embroidering the trademarked crocodile logo on the chest.
In addition to the used of supreme quality fabrics, what I love about Lacoste is the clean-cut look of the clothing because it allows for versatility–the clothes can be dressed for almost any occasion. While the idea of what is fashionable is constantly changing, what is ‘in’ today, might be ‘out’ tomorrow, Lacoste is a great example of a brand who manages to maintain its traditional roots while incorporating elements of modern fashion. For example, adding a sneaker graphic print the traditional anorak, giving it a dash of modernity, but not so overwhelming that it takes away from its design.
The crocodile logo is used to represent ”the elegance of the champion,” and I agree. Lacoste embodies what it means to the best and strives to share the idea of elegance and comfort with anyone who proudly wears the clothes with the embroidered crocodile logo on the chest.

What Is Candid Style?
Style is pushing the boundaries of fashion to find what makes you–you. Style is ambiguous and cannot be categorized or defined; not even dictionaries can put forth a single meaning for the term. However, I will say that style always has to do with your appearance, whether it is done purposely or not. With that being said I believe that every man has style, we just have to open our eyes. I opened mine and what I saw amazed me, so I took out my camera…
Candid Style: James (NYC)

I really liked James’ outfit, not only did he coordinate the colors really well, but each clothing item emphasized the other. For example, pairing the blue denim shirt with the Nantucket red pant, drew attention to his lighter blue button-down and face. I also thought it was cool that he used two button-downs–one being denim–it was creative.
Candid Style: Ben (NYC)

Pink is no longer for the women, more and more men are being spotted in this once “girls only” color. As I was walking through New York City, I ran into Ben and instantly I was drawn to his boots and bright pink shirt. They complimented each other and the blue denim jean made both item stand out even more. I like to see men wearing pink because it shows that they are confident, not to mention pink complements most skin tones.
Candid Style: Eddie (NYC)
Candid Style: Josh (NYC)
Josh’s outfit caught my attention because it was not the conventional form of dress. In other words, it was not polished, which gave the outfit its appeal. For me, his boots made the look–its antique appearance added a sort of roughness to it. I also liked that his blazer was not fitted because it emphasized the pant and boot.

Store Spotlight: Bass
After being introduced to Bass during my internship at GQ Magazine, it has quickly become one of favorite brands. Founded in 1876 by George Henry Bass, an early shoemaker. The brand prides itself on the notion of making “the best possible shoe for the purpose it is intended.” Although Bass is well-known for its high quality shoes and thorough workmanship, Bass is also noted as the pioneer of the penny loafer, after introducing its Weejuns line to the world in 1936.
What I love the most about the brand is that even after 136 years of making amazing shoes, it still manages to maintain the vision of George Henry Bass, while incorporating modern looks in their line. Not to mention, their shoes are made with great detail and can add sophistication to any outfit. While Bass prides itself on using only the best quality for their shoes, it is affordable on almost any budget. As I always say, “looking good should not cost an arm and a leg,” and Bass understands that.

Store Spotlight: Land’s End Canvas

I was recently introduced to Lands’ End Canvas and instantly it became one of my favorite brands. Lands’ End Canvas was launched in November 2009 as an extension of clothing retailer, Land’s End. Drawing inspiration from the classic American style—button-downs, denim jeans, and flat front chino pants/shorts—Lands’ End Canvas reinvents them with unexpected, original twists. For example, taking the traditional chambray work shirt, then slimming it down and adding a plaid pattern. This is definitely an important aspect, since more and more people are leaving behind traditional style and taking more risks.
What I love about the brand is that it stays true to Lands’ End’s rich heritage of offering high quality, value, and comfort. In addition, the clothes are more tailored to fit the look of modern fashion, which separates the brand from its predecessor. Not to mention the clothing is made with great quality and detail stitching, reminiscent of historical American style.
As for the prices, they are in comparison to Land’s End, so as you can imagine they are pretty reasonable. In short, Lands’ End Canvas pushes the limits on classics and I recommend the brand to all men who are looking to modernize their look.

Big Does Not Need to Equal Bland
Our motto is ‘taking men’s style to the next level’ and it’s great to come across both men and designers who are doing just that. Men with larger frames can sometimes experience style struggles when trying to find smarter outfits, so it was great to see Brit comedian James Corden coming up trumps at a recent awards ceremony.
James, 33, has a big bubbly personality and a stature to match, but he pulled off a classic tailored look while presenting at music awards the Brits last month, showing larger men can dress for the occasion. He also took some style inspiration from one of our favorite Brit style icons – his mate David Beckham - and styled his hair into a softly waxed quiff.
If you’ve got a commanding stature and have been struggling to nail a smarter look, you’ll find some specialist retailers online like Jacamo Menswear who cater for all shapes and sizes. But, before you buy, you’re best off taking stock of what is likely to suit you. You may want to take some style inspiration from Mr Corden, who looked rather dapper in a black tailored suit and waistcoat, which he wore with a crisp white shirt and patterned tie.
Larger gentleman are often warned against wearing monochrome outfits like this, as contrasting shades have a tendency to draw the eye to areas they may prefer not to highlight, like the stomach. James tackled this by wearing a coordinating waistcoat in black underneath his jacket, slimming his frame and preventing the eye from falling on his slightly generous stomach. In warmer months it’s possible to achieve a similar effect by wearing a lightweight jacket teamed with a shirt of a similar shade.

Below are pictures of former England cricket captain and Jacamo’s ambassador, Freddie Flintoff, wearing a suit from his own Freddie Flintoff collection.
The Clothes Are Loud, But Never Square.
Do not be afraid to mix colors because you never what you might create. However, when mixing colors, make sure that you are wearing at least two neutral colors to balance it out–you do not want to look like a box of crayons.

Introducing the Supima Anchor Cardigan

When I saw the supima anchor cardigan from Land’s End Canvas, I knew that I had to have it. I have seen many cardigans with different designs, but this one stood out. I loved the anchor print that went down the front of the cardigan because it brought a unique aspect to it. In fact, it reminded me of the print that you see on many preppy ties. As for the fit, it is pretty trim and hugs the body fine, so you do not have to worry about a boxy look. In addition, you can dress it up or dress it down, either way this cardigan is a show stopper.
Introducing the Voy-Voy Polo Shirt

A friend recently introduced me to the Voy-Voy brand and I was really impressed by the clothing. Although the clothes are simple, it works. I love the Voy-Voy polo shirts, not only are they slim-fit, but they do not have the ‘boxy’ look seen with other polo shirts. In addition, they all have blended pockets–pockets that are not noticeable–which add to its appeal.

Printed Ties, We Dig It
I was not really a big fan of printed ties, to me they seemed weird. However, I came across this bicycle print tie from Land’s End and for some reason, I kind of liked it. While it is true that there are many other bicycle print ties, this particular tie stood out to me–I think it was the random red bicycle that drew me in. Although, it is something simple, the red bicycle gave it character–something I love to see in clothing. And that is what I realized was the purpose of printed ties, they are supposed to give character to your outfit. However, they can also add too much character, which would make you look crazy. To avoid this never pair your print tie on a dark shirt or a shirt that has too many things going on. Instead, keep it simple. Many print ties come in darker shades, so pair them with lighter shirts–the rule to mixing patterns.

Peacoats Are Never Out
Although various types of peacoats are being released, the traditional peacoat is still the staple coat for men of style. Though, simple in look compared to its modern counterparts. The traditional peacoat still holds the title for representing sophistication. Its versatility and fit, allows for it to compliment your outfit, whether you are dressed up or dressed down.

Style, You Create It
I was inspired to write this post after I got into a debate with a friend about style. For my friend style is not something everyone has. Of course, I disagree, I believe everyone has style. I know some of you are probably thinking I lost it, but I promise you I am as sane as ever.
Style does not have a single definition, it can be defined in many ways. For me style is a representation of art that you have created to reflect who you are. Simply put, style is something you create. Just because someone does not dress the same as you, does not mean they are unstylish. Everyone has a different style, if we did not then fashion would not exist.
One of my close friends dresses completely different from me–think Urban Outfitters with a more hippy-bohemian look–And although I would not wear loose-fitting jeans or tuck my pant in my socks like he does– I understand that it is his style, his art, and that it reflects who he is.
As I mentioned earlier, style is what you create. So, having a particular brand such as a Zegna button-down does not mean you have style, it just means you have a Zegna button-down. However, it is what you create with it that does.

Sew & Tailor
Every man of style should know how to sew because you never know what could happen–you rip a hole in shirt or you cause a small tear in your coat. I am not saying that you have to be a master in sewing. No one is expecting you to tailor your own clothes, but you should be able to sew a button on your jacket if it falls off.
However, if you cannot sew, a good tailor would do. Now, you do not want to give your clothes to any tailor, do your research. Think of it as buying a car. Would you buy a car from anyone who calls themselves a car dealer? No. So, do not give your clothes to anyone who calls themselves a tailor.
Below are some useful tips on finding a good tailor.
Get Started:
Google tailors in your area, read the reviews, and visit them if you have to. It is your clothes, the fact that you are getting them tailored shows that you are invested, so make sure that your investment is worth it.
Experience:
Look for tailors with experience. Do not get me wrong, just because you have experience at something does not mean that you are good, but more likely than not, it does. However, make sure that you get references, it is always best to hear from others before you hand over your clothes.
Cooperation & Fashion Sense:
Is the tailor trendy? or old-school? Ask the tailor about their own take on fashion and decide if their view is in-line with yours. In addition, if the tailor resist your suggestions about the way you want your clothes, then move on to the next one. It is important to have control of your style.
Ask Around:
Do you remember that man, the one whose style you admire? Yeah, well ask him who tailors his clothes. That tailor might be the one you have been looking for.

Cuffed Denim + Button-Down = Casually Dapper
Jeans are no longer solely for casual wear, they have broken into the semi-formal and on some occasions, the formal realm. However, not any jean can be dressed up, it needs to have a certain look. By look, I am referring to the design, fit and cut of the jean. Do not expect to turn ripped or shredded jeans into something dressy–it just will not happen. Instead, get jeans of a simple wash or in solids colors. And make sure your jean is slim-fit or skinny. The slimmer leg opening, not only exudes a neat look, but it compliments the shoes and shirt. To complete the look, cuff your jean so that it touches the top of your shoes.

Introducing the Victorinox ‘Insulator’ Down Jacket
Lately, I have been hearing a lot of people talking about Victorinox, so I decided to give the brand a try–just to see what all of the hype was about. I read about the Victorinox ’Insulator’ Down Jacket online and from what I saw it seemed pretty cool, so I bought it. Although, the jacket looks pretty bulky–after all it is a men’s puffer coat, it is lightweight, which I love. It allows me to fold it and carry it around without any hassle. In addition, it is really warm for a light-weight jacket. And as for its design, I love the overall appearance, it is clean-cut, with a classic look. However, when buying this coat I recommend sizing down. For example, I wear a medium in jackets, but I bought this in a small because of the chest measurements (always check the size chart).

Watchstraps? Yeah, They Are In.
Watchstraps have become very popular among men, they are no longer used solely to replace tattered or worn down watchstraps. Instead, they have become fashion accessories–just like scarves. Now that watchstraps have become versatile–in the sense that they are being made in a variety of colors and patterns, I, like so many other men, use them to add that extra pop to my outfits. In addition, they give my watch a new look every time.
How to change your watchstraps:

Store Spotlight: Smart Turnout
I was first introduced to the Smart Turnout brand during my internship with GQ Magazine and since then it has become one of my favorite clothing stores. Drawing inspiration from the British Army and the colors of Ivy League Universities, they effectively make clothing that you want to wear. What I like the most about the brand is the way they use an array of colors and patterns to create ‘looks’ that I never thought of doing. For example I would not have ever dared to pair different colors of plaid together—for me it was a “fashion don’t.”
However, shopping at Smart Turnout changed my mind; not only do they embody the preppy look, but they bring it to the next level, such as taking inspiration from the patterns of traditional skiing sweaters and blending them with a jacquard sweater. Smart Turnout’s unique’s British style, has helped make a name for itself as the ideal brand for preppy attire worldwide, appearing in clothing stores such as J. Press (U.S.) and United Arrows (Japan).
As you can imagine, the clothing is not cheap. And why should they? Smart Turnout uses superior quality fabrics and great detail in designing their clothes, so it is worth every penny. In short, Smart Turnout is more than a brand, more than fashion; it is the definition of men in style.

Fashion’s Golden Eras Are Getting Married In 2012!
What are the latest fashion trends for men?
Be A Rebel, Always.
Current key trends are edging towards smart distinct looks while embracing a spirit of rebellion and a refusal to conform to authority. Men should be looking to push the boundaries of their style this year and have a lot of fun seeing exactly what they can get away with. Key styles for this year embrace the feeling that a rebel movement is for all hours and not just for playtime. Many are stuck in the nine-to-five routine with little opportunity to break out, limiting their naughty tendencies to the weekend only.
Take It to Work.
Try something different in your work attire this year, whether you’re a formal dresser for work or you’re allowed something a touch more casual. All of the key aspects of fashion carry something with which you can rebel without causing too much of a stir! Get rid of the loose-fitting suit and get something with a little more bite into your wardrobe. Something slim fitting and figure hugging will make a great change from the oversized two piece you know hand on heart you could swim in if you tried hard enough.
Keep shirts white but again well fitted, while investing in some edgier designed and perhaps more vividly coloured ties. Navy is boring! Keep yourself fashionable and looking original in the office with a brighter outlook to your work style this year. Badges and brooches are now available from most menswear providers so you can add a thoughtful touch to your style. Let your speak for you at work and get people talking about how well you are dressed, instead of the typical office talk.
Ditch the suit at the weekend, the denim is coming out to be devilish with you. Every rebel knows ultra-skinny jeans are the way to go and is a must-have piece to start building any look this year. Boots fit in well with this year’s trends too, so you will have a striking, yet durable look to your bottom half at all times.

The shirt and tie can also be consigned to the past, for two days at least, so you can throw on the layers and give yourself an attitude defining twist.
Start At the Bottom.
Get online and find yourself an outfit building tool to really help you look the business. Outfit builders now go a lot further than just putting a shirt together with a pair of trousers. Build a look of stylish clothes which will almost feel as if they were made specifically for you.

Candid Style: Trevor

Trevor’s color coordination is a good example of how to create an outfit composed of the same color. What I liked about Trevor’s outfit was that he did not try to match the blue with each other, instead, each item was a different shade, which worked out great because they blended together very well. I also liked that he kept the shades of blue within in the same range. By doing this, Trevor prevented the different shades of blue from clashing with each other. Thus, making his outfit easy to look at.
Candid Style: Ray
When I saw Ray’s coat, I knew that I wanted to write about it. I love that the coat is lightweight, which makes carrying it around less of a hassle. In addition, it is made with Columbia’s trademarked Omni-Heat technology, which prevent heat loss in cold weather. The color and design of the coat is two other factors that drew me to it. The rich blue of the coat made it stand out and complimented its overall look.
Androgyny: Blur Gender the Line
Androgyny has been around for decades, dating back to the 1970s when glam rock became popular with artists such as Queen, David Bowie, and Elton John. However, Androgyny has also become very popular in fashion. Androgynous models such as Andrej Pejic, Freja Beha Erichsen, Eleonora Bose, and Kristen McMenamy have become famous for walking the runway for high-profile designers from Jean-Paul Gaultier and Louis Vuitton. Androgyny has become popular in fashion because it not only challenges the meaning of gender, but it blurs the line of gender stereotypes. In addition, it allows designers and fashion lovers to experiment and explore men’s and women’s fashion.
Candid Style: Keith
The thing like about Keith’s outfit was the way that he coordinated his colors. I liked the pairing of the neutral colored short and boat shoe. Not only did they blend with each other fairly well–the neutral colors did not look too uniform nor did they over power each other, but they complimented his polo shirt and overall style.

Arm Parties!
Arm parties–the stacking of bracelets, have become huge, not only with women, but with men as well. Kanye West has been constantly spotted wearing numerous bracelets on his arm. Arm parties definitely look good, when done correctly. I know it is supposed to be a party on your arm, but men, do not over do it–no more than 8 should do. And be sure to mix the bracelets up, you do not want to make it look uniform.

I love Vans, they are not only comfortable, but they have a different look to them. So when I saw the Vans California 106 waxed canvas sneaker, I knew that I had to have it. What I like the most about this shoe is its uniqueness, it does not look like your typical sneaker. In fact, it reminds me of a sneaker-boot hybrid. This is the perfect shoe to wear on a casual day, with a slim-fit jean and a calm–not to flashy, slim-fit button down or v-neck sweater.

Suspenders Are No Longer for the Nerds
Once seen as the defining accessory amongst nerds, suspenders are slowly but surely making a comeback. Celebrities from Ed Westwick to Ashton Kutcher have been spotted wearing the elastic straps. What I love most about suspenders are their versatility, they can be either dressed up with a crisp button-down or dressed down with a plain graphic t-shirt. Either way, suspenders just work. If you are looking to add pizzazz to your outfit, then suspenders are the way to go.

Love the Fair Isle Sweater

Although Fair Isle sweaters have been around for years, I recently started to take notice of them. What I like about these sweaters is the Fair Isle knitting, the use of various patterns, designs, and colors definitely appeal to a fashion guru like myself. While these sweaters can be a little bulky–and I dislike bulky clothing–it works. In addition Fair Isle sweaters add an extra something to any outfit and can be dressed to fit almost occasion. However, when wearing these type of sweaters try not to go over board. The sweater is already extravagant enough, so adding tons of clothing items of different colors and patters, would result in a “what the hell is he wearing?” moment.

Introducing the Michael Kors Lightweight Merino Wool Sweater

Unlike other merino wool sweaters, which can sometimes be bulky, the lightweight merino wool sweater takes merino to a whole new level. They are easier to maintain, lack the bulk, and on top of that they look really nice. However, I have a love-hate relationship with the lightweight merino wool sweater. It is so light that it hardly resembles a sweater, instead, it looks more like a long-sleeve v-neck shirt. While I commend the design, it does not do it for me. Does that mean you should not get it? No. It comes down to preference, if you like the classic look of a “sweater” then go with a regular merino wool. If you want a sweater, but without the bulk, then go with lightweight merino wool.

Versatility.

Let’s face it, dressing well cost money– a lot of money. However, the great thing about style, is that you can make your clothes suit the look that you desire. Picture this. You are downtown with your friends when you get invited to a semi-formal get-together later-on that night. Instead of freaking out about what to wear, just turn what you are wearing into an outfit that fit the occasion. Something simple, such as adding a blazer to your outfit will do the trick. Do not freak out. Instead, get creative.

Store Spotlight: French Connection
French Connection (FCUK) is another one of my favorite stores, the clothes not only look really good, but they are not something you will find at every other store. The clothes at French Connection incorporate its European origin into all of the clothes–from quarter spread collar button-downs to the patterns. While the clothing is somewhat expensive–think Club Monaco prices–it is made of good quality fabric. However, French Connection clothing do run big. I wear a small in button-down shirts and I have to get an extra small when I shop at French Connection–and it still fits big on me. In spite of this French Connection is a wonderful store and is great for men who prefer a classic look.

Express And Their Ties
The time of ties being used as a “formal” accessory has passed. Instead, ties are now used as an “anytime” wear accessory. Recently, I found myself a little obsessed with ties–Express ties in particular. Made entirely out of 100% silk, Express ties not are not only made of high quality fabric, but they look pretty good as well. I recommend wearing ties that compliment your shirt, not conflict with it. Ranging from $40 to $50 dollars, Express ties are the way to go if you want to add something special to your outfit.

Shoeicide: Sperry Top-Sider 2 Eye Suede Boat Shoe
I love boat shoes because of their versatility, they can be dressed up–to an extent–or dressed down. Boat shoes can go with almost any outfit. However, a lot of people wear boat shoes and as men of style, we should always stand out from the crowd–if everyone is wear black, we should wear gray. With that being said, buy boat shoes that you do not see a lot of people wearing. No, I am saying to go and buy a boat shoe that looks hideous, instead buy boat shoes that are unique. The 2 eye suede boat shoe collection by Sperry Top-Sider is an example of boat shoes that are not commonly worn. Most men wear the typical brown leather boat shoe, so switch it up, wear suede or even cloth boat shoes. Stand out from the crowd, men of style always do.

The Mystery of Cologne, Solved.
For some men, when it comes to applying and purchasing cologne it is like figuring out the purpose of Stonehenge–a mystery. And who could blame them, it is not easy trying to find the right scent–one that does not make you smell as if you just walked out of Willy Wonka’s factory or Yankee Candle. Nor is it easy to figure out how much cologne one should apply on themselves–Should I only spray it on my neck? Should I spray it in the air and walk through it? Should I spray it all over my outfit?–It is harder than one might think. However, there are a few important things to know when it comes to cologne:
1) Think small. The life span of a bottle of cologne is one year. Even if you haven’t gone through the whole thing, after twelve months buy a fresh one; you don’t want to wear a stale fragrance.
2) Test in increments. When shopping for a fragrance, try two at a time at the most, one on each arm. Sniff your shirtsleeve between tests to clear your palate.
3) Keep it simple. Leave spraying wrists and other pulse points to the ladies. One hit on each side of your neck will do.
4) Rotate scents. Like your wardrobe, your scent should change with the seasons. In the warmer months, wear a small amount of a lighter, fresher scent; in winter, heavier scents like musks in slightly larger doses are appropriate.
5) Spray yourself, not the air. I know a lot of men do this, hell I used to, but spraying your cologne in the air and walking through the mist is not only stupid, but a waste of cologne. By the time you walk through the mist, most of it is already on the floor and on top of that the cologne is not even touching your skin.
6) Spraying, no over spraying. You want people to remember your cologne (and you) for the right reasons, not because you almost suffocated them when they were around you. Keep the spraying to no more than 3.
Tips #’s 1 through 4 were taken from JP Mangalindan’s GQ article, How to Buy (and Apply) Fragrance, while tips 5 and 6 were written by me.
Store Spotlight: Express
I love Express, the clothes are not only well made, but they have a broad selection to choose from. In addition, the prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of the clothes–from 100% silk ties for about $40 to coats under $300. What I enjoy most about shopping at Express is the limited quantity of clothes. In most cases once something is sold out it is not restocked. This is good because you do not have to worry about seeing a ton of people wearing something you recently purchased. For the most part I usually purchase jackets, ties, and plain merino wool sweaters from Express. When it comes to shirts and jeans I go elsewhere–they do not sell the jean cut I like (skinny) and the shirts fit weird, well on me it does. In spite of this, Express is a great store and I recommend it to savvy men who want good quality clothing at reasonable prices.

Store Spotlight: Who Are You (Who.A.U)

I walked into Who Are You a few days ago. I heard a lot of people talk about this store but I never thought to look into it, so when I was in Soho (NYC) I decided to check it out. From the colorful wall-to-wall button-down shirts to the signature Who.A.U varsity jackets, Who Are You definitely stays true to its California roots. The clothes are not only well made, but they look great too. In addition, the clothes are affordable. My favorite clothing item from Who.Are.U are the button-down shirts, because the fit is just right–it hugs to your body, giving a touch of sophistication.

So, I was walking through Soho (NYC) and I saw this guy playing on his phone. Immediately, I was drawn to his outfit. The Question of Shoe Lacing
Shoe lacing can be a hassle believe it or not. Trying to determine if you should lace your shoes straight-across or crisscrossed can cause a real headache. I usually leave the lacing of my shoes the same way I bought it, the last thing I need to do is stress over shoelaces. However, shoe lacing is a big deal for some men. In fact, I know a few guys who have a particular way of lacing their shoes. One guy for instance laces all of his dress shoes straight across and all of his casual shoes in a crisscross fashion. Although it sounds a little silly, I must admit that the lacing of a shoe does make a difference in its overall appearance.
Below are several ways that you can lace your casual and dress shoes.

Shoeicide: Paul Smith Wingtip Shoe
Wingtip shoes are a fashion must-have, every man should own at least one pair of these classic shoes. What I love about wingtip shoes is their versatility, they can be dressed up with a slim-fit suit or dressed down with a button-down and a hard denim jean. With that being said, Paul Smith has the best wingtip shoes. Not only are they well made, but they are made of finest leather, which makes the shoe look even better as it begins to age.

Shoeicide: TOD’S Patent Leather Shoe
TOD’S patent leather shoe is definitely a must-have, from its sleek look to perfect stitching, this patent leather shoe will add character to any outfit. Patent leather shoes are definitely making a comeback. Like some of you, I viewed patent leather shoes as the poster shoe during the time of the sexual revolution–1960s. However, after seeing a model wearing a patent leather boot in an ad, I decided to give it try.
Patent leather shoes are already an all-in-one statement, so do not wear bright extravagant colors. Instead, pair it with solid and/or neutral colors. However, if you insist on having a bright color, wear a bold plaid slim-fit button-down such as red. Add a hard denim jean–cuff the bottom, and light-colored socks.
When wearing a patent leather shoe with a suit, pair it with solid colors such as navy blue. This would draw the right attention to your attire.

Top 10 Shopping Websites for Men of Style
1. Topman
Topman is my number one choice because the clothes are not only amazing, but in every item it is easy to see the European influence–from funnel collar trench coats to low wingtip Oxford shoes. Although Topman is somewhat expensive–prices range from $20 to $400, the clothes are definitely worth it.
2. The Tie Bar
I was introduced to The Tie Bar after reading about it in GQ. I was really impressed by the quality and prices of the ties. Not only are the ties made with the finest materials such as wool and silk, but they are at very reasonable prices–ties are around $15. The tie bar is definitely a place worth shopping.
3. CLAD
Cladmen is one of my favorite men’s shopping websites. Partnered with Esquire Magazine, Cladmen has clothes that are not only popular in men’s fashion, but are made by many of the top designers in the world, from John Varvatos to Billy Reid. Even though the clothes are not cheap, they are of very good quality, so it is definitely worth the money. However, when you buy from Cladmen be sure to check the size chart and the clothing details because some of the clothes have a European cut and may be bigger than normal. In spite of this, Cladmen is definitely a great place to shop. They even send your clothes to you neatly wrapped in tissue paper, inside of a sleek satin box–even the recipt had its own satin pouch.
Urban Outfitters is definitely one of the best stores you can shop at. The clothes are really cool; they come from a variety of designers, who incorporate their creativity into each design. As for the quality of the clothes, well, it is pretty good. Do not get me wrong, it can definitely be improved, but for the most part the quality of the clothes are good. What I love about Urban Outfitters is the vintage appeal of the clothes–it pushes me to get even more creative with my outfits.
5. Piperlime
Piperlime is one of the best websites for men to get a variety of designer shoes, watches, clothing, and accessories. Not to mention, you might find some of your favorite brands such as Cole Haan, selling for less than the original price. Though, you may find some great deals on Piperlime, a majority of their stuff is somewhat pricey–things can go as high as $500.
I love Banana Republic; the clothes are not only made of superior quality such as Italian merino wool and cashmere, but they also bring both style and sophistication to any outfit. The clothes may cost a little more than major chains, but they are worth every penny.
Smart Turnout is another one of my favorite stores to shop for preppy attire. What I like the most about this store is the way Smart Turnout incorporate its British style into their clothing. Using an array of colors and patterns, Smart Turnout effectively makes clothing that you want to buy. And although the clothes are a little expensive, they are made with superior quality fabrics and great detail. In short, Smart Turnout is definitely worth every penny.
8. ASOS
ASOS is a really good store to shop. For me ASOS is the European Urban Outfitters. What I love the most about ASOS is its vast selection of clothes, from labels such as Barbour and Shades of Grey. As for prices, they can range from $32 to over $300. In spite of this, ASOS is definitely a great place to shop for all of the latest fashion.
9. YesStyle
I reccomend YesStyle to men who love Asian fashion. Not only does YesStyle have good quality clothing that are unique, but the clothes are at reasonable prices. However, when ordering from YesStyle, be sure to check the size chart because Asian sizing may not be the same as other places. For example, if you wear a size small in U.S. stores, you will have to get a medium from YesStyle.
10. Express
I love Express, the clothes are not only well made, but they have a broad selection to choose from. In addition, the prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of the clothes–from 100% silk ties for about $40 to coats under $300. Express is definitely a great place to go.
