Of Men and Makeup

Men and makeup, while it may sound a bit odd at first, it’s one of the biggest not-so-secret secrets out there. By that I mean, it’s not really that talked about. Sure, you have television shows such as RuPaul’s Drag Race and America’s Next Top Model where you see men wearing makeup, but that’s expected.

In Drag Race the men are wearing makeup to dramatize their features as part of their quest to become “America’s next drag superstar,” while in Top Model the guys are models, so it’s typical for them to wear makeup—right?

I am talking about guys who aren’t in those positions. You know, the guys like you and me. For many of us, wearing makeup is just not something that we think about doing and if we do, we’re probably too embarrassed to actually walk into the nearest Sephora and look for our perfect shade of color.

Well, I am here to tell you that it is totally fine for men to wear makeup. A lot of men do, from Ryan Seacrest to Charlamange tha God. I am not saying that you have to get your “Kim Kardashian” on. But, a little makeup won’t hurt. I, for example, wear concealer to hide the dark circles under my eyes as well as those pesky zits that always seem to pop up at the wrong time. I even know a guy who uses mascara to fill in his beard and another one who uses an eyebrow pencil to ‘sharpen’ his hairline. So, using makeup is nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s more common than you think.

Below is an image of me wearing concealer. The left side is how my face looks before I apply to the makeup and the right side is how my face looks after. What do you all think? Should more men explore the use of makeup or should it be left alone.
