Last Saturday (July 25th) was the highly anticipated NYC SneakerCon event. This renowned sneaker show rose to prominence in 2008 as a traveling event that allows sneaker enthusiasts to buy, sell and trade some of the most sought after footwear on the market.
I’ve always wanted to go to SneakerCon, but my schedule made that very difficult. But, this year I made sure that I was able to attend. As expected the event was packed, there were people from wall-to-wall and there were so much sneakers, sneakers that I didn’t even know existed.
My favorite part of the event was the “trading pit.” It was interesting watching everyone barter and sell their sneakers. And as a former sneakerhead, I was all too familiar with this aspect of the sneaker market. The brand’s that made up the show included Air Jordan, Adidas, New Balance, Nike, and of course all of Kanye West’s sneakers (the “Yeezy” line). I can’t wait for the next NYC event, with all of the new sneaker releases coming out later this year (i.e. Drake’s OVO Jordan 10) the show is going to get even more interesting.
Regret not going to the one in NY. Next year, for sure.
